Finding Accessible Toilets Across Australia

Searching for an accessible toilet isn’t always easy, especially if you’re on a road trip and away from familiar places. The National Public Toilet Map can help in finding accessible toilets across Australia. This clever map is making any kind of travel a little bit easier. Read on to learn more.

About the Toilet Map

It is estimated that more than 5 million Australians are in some way affected by incontinence. When you drill down into the figures, you will see it affects more than 1 in 10 men and 1 in 3 women.

The National Public Toilet Map (the Toilet Map) is a website and app that helps you search for public toilet facilities across Australia, including accessible toilets. Find out more about the MLAK key for after hours use of accessible toilets too.

It features more than 19,000 publicly available toilets and for a number of years has made it easier to find one that meets a range of needs.

While road signs can highlight a toilet nearby, they don’t guarantee the facilities are accessible for all. This map is giving travellers with limited mobility a helping hand in reducing the stress of finding one they can safely use.

It also includes useful information about the location, accessibility and facilities available at the toilet.

How do I use the Toilet Map?

The Toilet Map is available by a web browser or for download on the App Store or Google Play.

To start your search simply type in a postcode, suburb, address or destination. Once the available toilet facilities appear, apply a relevant filter to suit your needs.

Not only can you filter to identify wheelchair accessible, but you can also refine your search by: Changing Places accredited facilities, MLAK use, nearby accessible parking, left-hand and right-hand transfer (for assisted toilet use), and much more.

Speaking of transfers, we have some great information on transferring to and from your wheelchair to the car.

And when it comes to more information about accessibility in cities and other locations across Australia, you may also want to check out Accessibility in the City.

Can I use it to plan my trip route?

Absolutely! You can also use the Toilet Map when you’re planning a fun Aussie road trip by entering a start and end destination. The map will show the quickest route and any accessible toilets along the way.

An account can be made to save trip plans and preferred locations of the nearest toilets for future use. Great to refer back to when planning future holidays to favourite destinations.
